1.00 a.m. - so what am I thinking about?

T.V. is on beside me as I type (Discovery Knowledge Channel 522 - “Weapons of War - Leibstandarte” -How Hitler’s personal bodyguard grew into a Panzer division that would be deployed to wherever the fighting was fiercest. Leibstandarte is German for bodyguard. Bet you didn’t know that!)

What am I thinking about these days?

Here goes:

  • The probable demise of the school is never far from my thought. I have a lot of euthanistic thoughts about the place. I have days where I think the place should be put down rather than suffer a lingering death. I have lost enthusiasm for the place. I am teaching better than I have ever done before, getting more and more organised by the day but I can’t see beyond the 9 to 3 time. I do my day’s teaching … that’s it I’m not interested in doing anymore than that. I have curtailed all the extras I used to do. Anyone for a complete set of school policy document? They took years to create/compile/whatever but will be worthless pieces of paper in the near future.
  • I started a John Grisham novel last weekend (on a break in Kerry) …. got into it but haven’t touched it since I came home. If you’re interested it’s called “The Last Juror”.
  • I need to cut my hedges and trim back a few trees but with school sapping the energy out of me every day and winter on the way it’s probably not going to get done.
  • I have missed on on my daily walks with the dogs a lot lately ….. a combination of reasonsĀ  ….. thinking that I should get my arse in gear and just get out and walk.
  • Am getting professional advice as to what my options will be when the school finally folds its show …. anxiously awaiting the info so I can prepare/plan my next move.
  • Online site(s) development going nowhere fast …. too bloody tired to commit.
  • I have a nice large flat screen t.v. in the sitting room … Ihave been thinking about watching a dvd on it for the past week … haven’t got there yet! How sad is that!
  • Specialist gave me some exercise for my knees (last Monday week) ….. thinking I must start doing them soon!

There’s more …. but I’m off to bed. Discovery Channel will have to mind itself. Night all.

OH Paddy! Change is difficult but inevitable and always thrust upon us when we’re not quite ready. Embrace it. I worked for a great (and I mean great) crew in 1995, we put in a proposal for a fifty million dollar upgrade for the National Fingerprint Database/National Names and DNA database - I worked for a policing agency and the upgrade was definitely needed. The minister said yes but she wanted the whole thing run in Canberra not Sydney so all of us went through 12 months of Change Management (one of those sanitised phrases like Collateral Damage) It was such a hard year. Some were seconded into other departments, I took a voluntary redundancy but it all worked out in the wash - seriously - put something positive into that DVD - Shawshank Redemption perhaps? And definitely take the Wuffa’s for a walk, you know they love it!

Paddy, We have not met. I shall still try and reach out to you.

I have personal experience of such periods of disjointedness. On three occasions, in fact. Each after a major activity winding down.

This too shall pass. It is not the end of the world.

Here is an offer. If you want a change, if you can get here, my home is yours! What say?

I’d love to go to Egypt! Always had a fascination to the place since doing Art and Ancient history at school. And you’re welcome down under anytime!
