Isaac Hayes, the singer, songwriter and musician whose ‘Theme From Shaft’ won Academy and Grammy awards, has died at the age of 65.

Hayes became the voice of Chef, the school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show ‘South Park’ in 1997.

Rest In Peace Isaac.

I’ve written previously about my desire to get out of teaching.

My desire to get out of teaching is driven by my desire not to be principal anymore. Principalship has brought a plethora of paperwork and its associated problems to my door …. as a result teaching ain’t fun anymore.

I’ve been toying with the notion of purchasing a place in Kerry with a view to renovating/downsizing.

I am actively looking for prospective purchases but availability is still a problem. The prices being asked for the places that are available are ridiculous …. I’m waiting for that 40% drop they’re talking about.

I’ve been following a lot of people who earn (or attempt to earn) a living from the internet and I believe with a bit of focussed effort I could make a little pocket money too … perhaps earn enough to ‘downsize’ my day job.

I was away In Kerry this past week …. and it was heaven …. I went property shopping and I have to admit I got butterflies in my stomach at the thought of taking on a new challenge/changing the pace of my life.

I have a rough idea where I’d like to relocate to, what I’d like to relocate to and am certain I will do it when the right place comes up.

On my travels I came across a beautiful cottage …. in a beautiful location …. with its own wind turbine and solar panels on the roof ….. they were well on the way to self sufficiency.

I viwed another property being sold by a guy who had given up wearing shoes for years! He was selling to fund the development of his own self-sufficient lifestyle.

He had no running water, no electricity … but he did inform me that he has satellite broadband!

I won’t go as drastic as that …. but I am determined to ’simplify’ my life.
