Celebration time come on!

Hanafin is no more ….. I’ll not miss her in Education. She was very abrupt in her manner. Not at all suited to the Education and Science portfolio.
I pity the people in Social and Family Affairs who’re getting her.
Batt O’Keeffe is one of the new kids on the block and we have him.
I hope he’ll deliver.

I was delighted for you, Paddy
I hope Batt O’Keeffe does a better job. Hanafin didn’t look too happy with her move. It remains to be seen how the new Leaving Cert timetable pans out this year.
My read on it is… it used to be difficult for everyone which was fair but now she’s made it difficult for a minority group and that’s unfair!
Meanwhile, we’re all still stuck with Harney
but I honestly don’t think she’ll last much longer.
I remember Micheál Martin as Minister for Education …. he gave the Education sector that ‘feel good’ factor. I reckon all us teachers would have worked for nothing under his stewardship. He was in it for education sake … at least that’s the impression he gave.
Then we got Woods, Dempsey and Hanafin …. each as arrogant and as nasty as each other.
With the purse strings getting tighter we need somebody at the helm who’ll bring that ‘feel good’ factor back.
The ball’s in your court Batt!
Get in early and invite him to your school for a full day, away from the bright lights to the coalface of real education.
Amazingly enough Grannymar …. we are on a promise of a visit. Must follow up on it. A visit from a Minister of Education and Science would be a great morale boost ….. an acknowledgement of what we’re doing etc.
If a visit were to happen …. I’d prefer a quiet, not overly publicised visit. I’d get the pupils to prepare some questions to ask him.
They surfed the gov.ie website and are very familiar with the various departments and the old and new Ministers. They have learned a lot …. thanks to Bertie’s departure and Cowen’s arrival!
