Child Protection Services - a joke!

Family

Each school is required to have a Child Protection Policy.

A D.L.P. (Designated Liaison Person) has to be named within the policy …. guess who that eejit is normally?

Yup …. you guessed it … the Principal.

We are also to have a deputy D.L.P. in the case of the absence of the D.L.P. or in the case of an allegation being made against them.

We have both.

Child Protection covers both sexual and physical abuse but it also covers neglect (wilful or unintenrtional).

I had occasion to have concern about a particular child …. concerns in relation to neglect.

I asked external support services for help … none was forthcoming.

I asked the school nurse for help … none was forthcoming.

I asked the school doctor for help … none was forthcoming.

They all ran. I gave up asking for help/advice. I wrote it all down though. I still have it …. just in case.

I did the best I could for the child on a daily basis.

I did learn a valuable lesson ….. protect thyself teacher!

I always write things down now …..

No need to cry Grannymar … child suffered no long term effects …. just that more could have been achieved and life enhanced/made easier if the support services had …. well …. given support!

    Paddy

Baino has some interesting stuff about teachers over at her place today.

    Tell her “Steph sent you!”

Paddy is it the same the world over? Our child protection act requires MANDATORY reporting of abuse which means it’s often wrong . .and over zealous community service workers snatch said child into custody . . or on the other end of the scale . . .your problem . . . nothing is done until it’s too late and there are moans of ‘how did this happen . . .it could have been prevented’. I share your frustration.

Age has matured my attitude … perhaps hardened it a little.

I’ve gotten tired of fighting the system …. so it’s written in the diary ….. to be referred to if ever a judge asks me to explain my actions.

We Irish talk the talk but never seem to walk the walk.
