Council rates set to return!

Dublin City Council

Councils are planning to bring in a multitude of local taxes.

The new charges will cost Mr. & Mrs. PAYE Taxpayer at least €200 a year.

What’s on the list?

  • Water charges.
  • Increased motor tax charges.
  • An amenity charge, to develop ‘cultural, recreational and amenity facilities’.
  • A ‘modest charge’ for recycling.
  • Taxes on all cans, bottles and cartons sold.
  • A ’selective environment tax’ for street cleaning.

The local authorities are also looking for the power to set and impose local taxes.

I guess John Gormless will oblige ….. this ‘green policy’ is quickly turning into a major pain in the ass and causing a major dent in the wallet.

An annual property tax is also under consideration but the fear of civil unrest like the Poll Tax protests in England is keeping this one at bay (so far).

Screw us again Fianna Fail/Greens ….. the cost of living is going up and what are you doing? …. raising taxes.

What a fuck up of a country we live in!

Next they’ll be charging us for the air we breathe!

I was listening to Newstalk this morning and heard Ruairi Quinn talking about the scandal of the 30,000 children taught in pre-fabs around the country. The days when children left their run-down cottages to go to school in a fine building are well and truly over. Children now leave their fine homes to rough it out in draughty, leaking, over-crowded school buildings, many of which are so-called ‘temporary’ facilities. It’s a national disgrace!

I’m confused, do you mean your water is free?
Your garbage collection and recycling services are free?
We pay council rates and have ever since I can remember they cover everything you’ve mentioned except water which is charged separately. they are calculated on the ‘unimproved value’ of your land. No property but there is a 2% stamp duty on the purchase price of a property or have an investment property valued above $1mil.
You’ve only got 5 million people there living on a teeny island . . how much can services cost?

Water is free to private residences ….. used to be charged for.

Schools used to have free water …. now we are charged.

We all pay refuse charges …. recycling at amenity centres is free for most items.

They’re just trying to pull in more money …..
