Cowen ~ you’re a fool and a bollix!
Biffo, the clown, Cowen has defended the Government’s decision to recapitalise Irish banks and he has said that the details will be finalised within the next few days.
The Bank of Ireland and Allied Irish Bank have reportedly agreed terms with Lenihan (Cowen’s lackluste Minister for Finance) for their recapitalisation.
The deal, worth €7bn, is designed to incentivise existing shareholders to invest in the banks (Yeah … like that’s going to happen).
Great ….. in today’s Irish Examiner it’s said that Bank of Ireland staff are getting a 3.5% pay rise.
The Green Party (Cowen’s lapdogs in government) have criticised it saying that it is way out of line with public sentiment and will cause anger and resentment.
Done …. there’s anger and resentment here. Fuckers.
I’m being forced to pay a pension levy that will reduce my salary by thousands yet others get an increase at my expense. Go figure that.
The Public Sector is being hit hard so that the Government can raise/save 2 billion euro yet they have no bother giving €7bn to the banks that have been complicit in putting our country into the mess it’s in now.
All the Government is doing is driving a wedge between the Public Sector and the Private Sector.
This Government needs to get real before there is out and out anarchy in the country.
Sort out all sectors – both private and public …. but do it in a fair and equitable way. And make both competitive.
Bring to task the individuals and groups who got us into the bloody mess:
- Do a big cull of the banking sector …. (probably ain’t going to happen when they’re getting billions in prop up money and probably with few conditions attached).
- Cull number two – the developers and all associated hangers on.
- The Media – for keeping us in the doldrums. Time for some good positive news. If we keep hearing all the bad news we’re definitely not going to have any hope of getting out of this mess.
- The biggest cull of all – the Government – reduce the number of TD’s, cull their pay, scrap the ‘pensions’ etc. etc. And bring some economists in to run the country (but not George ‘Doom and Gloom’ Lee).
Let words like cronyism, crookedness, greed and nepotism be a thing of the past.
Fairness, honesty, patriotism …. words like these have to become the foundation upon which we help our country to recover.
I am happy to do my part but let it a fair and equitable part.
Over the you Biffo!

Paddy, another great post but the line:
‘
Fairness, honesty, patriotism …. words like these have to become the foundation upon which we help our country to recover.
‘
is what worries me, these are the keywords that Cowen, Harney and the the green croonies will use to their own advantage in press releases in the next few weeks.
Revolt should be the main keyword, we have voted the current FF government in, not in the form that they have taken but we gave them that power to choose their own format.
Personally. I hate the PD’s, love the idea of the Greens but with what the Greens have lacked to do in the power they have been given, I could never vote for them again in their current format.
The banks being bailed out is just another kick in the face, for years we have been listening to RTE news listing the billions AIB, BOI and so on are making in profits in previous years and as soon as what they have been pushing big time (property, pensions) turns bad for them we are all expected to bail them out…
F**k them, they have raped our counrty.
We do need them badly but we also need them to be regulated before another cent is paid into them.
So, after that rant, I’d move your ‘The biggest cull of all’ to the first thing to be done.
A change of government is badly needed, a governemnt that wont only blame the current world climate but take responsibility for what has been done and hold their hands up is what is needed.
In the last week I have heard a US & AUS president saying we have fucked up in the past, when will an Irish governement say that and an Irish public stop worshiping a statue of CH… the sooner the better…
If nothing changes, we need to revolt & take control of Dail Eireann ourselves pretty soon…
Paddy a Government is only on it’s toes when the opposition is feisty. Sounds like you need a decent opposing political party. I’m not sure what your system is, I assume it’s based on the Westminster system where a ‘senate’ or house of reps has to pass laws? If so, you need opposition representatino there. Strong opposition . .where are they? Who are they? I can’t understand the apathy that seems to have overtaken Ireland in the last 2 years . . I hear people complain, I see the disatisfaction, even the younglings are looking for sunnier climes with less doom and gloom . .strike. . .can you imagine what would happen if the entire public service shut down for just one day! You’re so right. It’s incredibly unfair, I don’t know why others can’t see it and support you more rigorously. Now go to bed, you need a clear head and your beauty sleep!
I agree with your points, just bear in mind the private sector is not exclusively banking. My CEO told us that our current funding runs out in April. We have several good leads on additional funding, but none are in the bag. So come April I could find myself unemployed. Generalisations on both sides of the public private fence are the things that drive the wedge home.
dave ~ regardless of Cowen saying it, I truly believe that we need to unite if we are to see good times again. Cowen may be saying it but he isn’t putting it into practice.
Baino ~ the opposition …. God help us if they get into power ….based on their unrelenting crappy rhetoric I wouldn’t hold out much hope for our future under their watch. The only guy who seems to make any impression on me is Eamon Gilmore of the Labour Party but given a sniff of power he could lose the run of himself too.
TC ~ I sympathise with your precarious position. I realise that the private sector isn’t just banking but it permeates all forms of business. If the banks fuck up the rest get fucked up too.
There isn’t any easy solution but we need a PLAN …. you hear that Biffo?? … repeat after me …. A PLAN! And the plan needs the support of all. So treat ALL fairly Biffo and get on with it or ship out!
Paddy,
I think you should keep Biffo back after school and get him to write out 100 times…
We need a PLAN
We need a PLAN
We need…
steph ~ he still wouldn’t learn!
