I got this from an oral language game we have in school.
Given a list of categories, choose one item for each.
In addition a person to accompany you must be chosen and 3 other items.
This is my ‘list’:
- A CD: ‘Eye in the Sky‘ by The Alan Parson’s Project
- A book: The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
- An item of technology: My laptop with magical internet access
- A Film: The Shawshank Redemption
- A Game: Hidden and Dangerous (with cheats!). I loved Dizzy too! (on the ZX Spectrum)
- An item of clothing: Jeans and t-shirt (ok … I cheated a little with two items!)
- A Photograph: My mother
- Who would I take with me? Bear Grylls – the survivalist!
Three other items I would take:
- A guide to surviving on a desert island – the abridged version
- A deck chair
- A radio
I’d leave the rescue/escape plan to Bear Grylls to sort out!

But Bear was debunked, unless there is a comfy hotel on the island. You want Ray Mears, or I would. He would enable me to survive on the island indefinitely.
So I need shelter, water, food and the ability to make fire. Hmmm.
CD: Doesn’t matter, won’t have something to play it, mainly used for signaling to ships IF I decide I want to be rescued.
Clothes: well, wet jeans suck, so my excellent shorts I bought in Lidl many years ago.

Person: Hmm. See, I’m an only child and pretty happy in my own company. I’m sure Jessica Alba or Scarlett Johanssen would be distracting for a while, but then it’d be all “When are we getting off this island” and “Can’t you build us a bigger shack?”. Can I skip that item?
My extras: A good knife, a hatchet, a fishing rod.
Book: Magician’s Gambit, 3rd in the series The Belgariad. Immensely easy read, I’ve read it loads of times at this stage.
Technology: My wind up torch.
Film: Fight club
game: pooh sticks (note, must build bridge)

At least you’re ready to make some effort at survival!
I need to think about it. I’ll keep it for a quiet day at my place.
Bear Grylls put me off climbing Everest!
