Irish parents forcing their children to smoke!

Cigarettes

No …. it’s not a blatant form of child abuse that I’m talking about. I’m sure most parents love their children dearly and wouldn’t consciously dream of harming them in any way.

It’s the unconscious abuse I’m referring to. A child came into my class this morning and she reeked of cigarette smoke. I noticed it because it was particularly pungent today. I was correcting her homework at the time.

Her mother and father are like two chimney pots. And they do treat their children well; they are always well dressed and they are never short of anything.

Yet, I felt that all this was negated by the fact that they were exposing their 11 year old daughter (and her siblings)  to carcinogens.

They might as well have put the cigarette into her hand and offered her a light!

Time for an S.P.H.E. (Social, Personal & Health Education) lesson on smoking I think!

Best anti-smoking lesson I ever saw was someone inhaled a cigarette and then blew the smoke out through a handkerchief. It left a brown stain. That is what happens inside the lungs with each puff. Imagine the build up over a year?

It’s so easy to get hooked ….. I see that the cigarette companies are now targetting the African countries where regulation is almost non-existent. sales … sales … sales
