Poor Bertie (NOT)!
Bertie will lose out on his Taoiseach’s salary increase of €38,178 when he leaves office next month.
Poor old Bertie will see his annual salary drop by €85,000.
All is not lost for Bertie …. he’ll get a ‘departing gift’ of €130,567 over the six months after he steps down.
After that he’ll get a Taoiseach’s pension of €104,455.
This is based on 60% of the difference between a Taoiseach’s salary and a T.D.’s salary.
If Cowen accepts the €38,000 increase as Taoiseach, Bertie’s pension will get a boost of an extra €22,800!
Bertie will end up with a total income of €224,992 which will be €85,000 less than Cowen will be making as Taoiseach.
There’s more ….. if Bertie leaves the Dáil after the next election he will get two separate pensions — one for his service as a T.D. and the other for his time as Taoiseach.
As he has served as a Dáil deputy for more than 20 years, and as Taoiseach for over 10 years, he will automatically be entitled to the maximum pension benefits of 50% and 60% of the pay given to both roles respectively.
At the present rates of politicians’ pay, this would see him getting €48,873 in his T.D.’s pension and €158,711 in his Taoiseach’s pension.
Combined, his total pension package after his retirement would amount to €207,584 each year.
He will also get a once off lump sum when he leaves the Dáil … currently €146,620.
He will also have the use of:
- A State car for life
- A Garda driver for life
- A secretaral assistant for life
- A mobile phone for life
and he will have Garda protection at his home for life!
Bertie has screwed the system.
Bertie will continue to screw the system for the rest of his life.
Who said crime doesn’t pay ? ………. it does in this instance!!
The worst part of the whole thing is that every single cent will be coming out of the tax payers’ pockets.
That’s you and me!
