Teachers want Hanafin’s scalp!

The I.N.T.O. and the A.S.T.I. are on the warpath ….. there are talks of strike.
The issue in the primary sector relates to the broken promise of reducing class sizes, while the issue in second level schools relate to discipline problems.
Sheriff Mary has warned us that strike action could hit us financilly. The national pay deal, ‘Towards 2016′, committed us to a no-strike clause and breaking it would result in the Government refusing to pay the next salary rise.
I can’t see how we can be expected to remain committed to the National Pay Deal when the Minister and her department have broken all promises made.

- We have no reduction in class sizes
- No doubling of the day to day (capitation) grant, necessary for running a school effectively
- The abrupt ending of the Summer Works’ Scheme which allowed schools bring small scale projects to fruition. Schools were invited to apply for funding for the 2008 scheme and having spent money on completing applications for the scheme now find themselves with bills for professional fees and no funds to pay them. (The positive side of the ending of this scheme is that Principals may now be able to reclaim their summer holidays again)
It’s not all about the money Mary …. it’s about investment in education, improvement in pupil contact time, proper accomodation …. the list is endless.
We have conceded a lot over the last few years …. we have produced and produced …. productivity and accountability are coming out of our ears. The ‘celtic tiger’ years are fast becoming a blurred memory …. why were those years wasted? Why wasn’t proper investment made? Now with the talks of tightening our belts what suffers fist? Health and Education.
Our children deserve the best education that can be provided. (Our society also deserves the best health system possible … we have paid enough taxes over the years … it should also be ‘free’! But the health issue is for another time)
It’s time for the I.N.T.O to resurrect the slogan … ‘Enough is enough’ …………. I am prepared to go on strike!
I’ve had enough!
Action I.N.T.O. ….. the time for talk has ended.

Well-voiced! Paddy.
I’ve just shouted ‘enough is enough’ over the state of the health service.
I think the two Mary’s are in cahoots, don’t you?
I spotted it … just left you a comment.
Amazing how the ‘Enough is enough’ slogan has been used in both areas but very little done because of it.
The minute they talk of slow down in the economy they close down wards, stop the school building programme and batten down the already small hatches!
The Government should be deeply ashamed of themselves …. they opted to stand for election with the commitment of doing good for the people and the minute they get elected they forget it all.
Our country has lost touch with itself.
It started with clinton, spread to New Labour and then tou our shower of gombeens. The new democracy is the free market, which leaves the government free to apply the odd sticking plaster to a hopeless system and run PR campaigns to convince us gimps of their capability.
There is little or no real political vision and half the electorate view voting as a consumer activity. Hey new slogan “FF: The choice of an old generation”
