I have some installed in newer downlight fittings and they last for ages like 2 years or more so they're cheaper in the long run. One of the bulbs was so old that the plaster/cement had worked loose from the base and the glass turned while the base of it stayed put. It still worked! No problem with them in theory ..... initial changeover cost is an annoyance and the fact that they takes ages to 'brighten' up. What id I just need to get something quickly from a room .... it won't be bright enough before I switch it off again! The Green party are a pain in the hole .... their 'green' policies end up costing money. I'm all for going green but why does it have to cost me deep in my pocket? Bah humbug .... Personally it's a good move but it would be better if we encouraged people to use them for the 'savings' rather than forced the change.(Mind you it's mandatory to have fire alarms as well but I haven't installed mine yet!)
