Beyond 2020: Using Technology in the Primary Classroom ==> Successfully complete this online course and you’ll get your fee refunded!

I did it last year. It’s a very good IT related course. Not for the beginner though.

You have to pay €95 prior to doing the course but complete it and your money will be refunded to you in early September.

Voila …. a course for free and 3 E.P.V. as well.

Because it’s an online course you can do it at your own pace. You’ll have to undertake some project work based on the modules but it’s very practical stuff and of great use in the classroom.

Details are as follows:

This course is aimed at teachers who are advanced users of IT in the classroom. To undertake the course you need to be very familiar and comfortable with browsing web pages, zipping and unzipping resources, downloading and trialing tools such as Skype, Google Maps etc., creating resources and uploading them to an external forum. This will be a challenging and rewarding course for its intended audience but is not suitable for intermediate or beginner ICT users.

Please Note:

· This course is not intended for the occasional IT user.

· This course is refundable but only on course completion. Refunds will be given in September 2009.

· This course is only available and accessible from July 2nd at 6pm until July 17th and from August 17th – 28th inclusive.

One part of the course is based on Microsoft Photo Story 3  …. it’s FREE and easy to use. You can get it here.

You can add images/photos/drawings, text and sound to create a story in a slideshow. It’s saved as a wma file. I’ve used it in my class and it creates great, instant results for the pupils.

And the link for the FREE summer course?

Well it’s here ……. courtesy of the I.N.T.O.

Paddy, I’m no tech head but it sounds very simple even if it is free. Then I had to go and install Skype for my girlfriend, she’s been teaching for 30 years! GAH. Thanks for the links. I’ll have a gander on the weekend. There’s a HUGE initiative here as a result of the economic stimulus package to get all schools connected and online. Pretty cool but I think a lot of teachers will struggle to find the ‘on’ button!

With the way the education system is being squeezed dry here I’m afraid ’tis the off button teachers will be reaching for.

Re. Photo Story …. it is veeeeeeeeeeeery simple to use!

    Hi Paddy,

I completed this course in early July. I found it brilliant, I had always wanted to learn podcasting and blogging. I am totally self taught with computers and am in no way advanced so I think that the description is a bit off putting for teachers. The fact that it was free was all that I needed to hear – harsh economic times and all the rest.

Anyways I was just wondering to get the refund does one claim for it or are you just automatically reimbursed in September?

    Thanks,
    Joanne

Hi Joanne …. if you paid by laser the fee will automatically be refunded to your account in September.

If nothing happens by the end of the second week a call to INTO head office should help get you sorted or perhaps chance sending an email to INTO elearning and they’ll tell you exactly when the money will be refunded.

And …. welcome to my place!
